Our very own Dinky Door
This is a big secret but, it is on its way. The City Council grant has been agreed and the Dinky People will start work this month. They won’t tell us where it will be – we’ll have to find it! They have said something about tiny artworks. They want us (especially the tiny us-people that live in our area) to provide tiny artworks to inhabit the spaces behind the many doors that will be part of the structure. They tell us that we will have more information on the Skip Day. Intriguing!

Recycle your IT
Emmaus Cambridge has recently started a new project to complement their existing not-for-profit social enterprise at their Landbeach community.
"We have taken over the former charity Reboot Cambridge and working with their staff we have set up Emmaus Reboot.
We are now looking to local companies and the general public to support our charity by donating your unwanted IT hardware, we will then recycle and re-sell refurbished computers through the social enterprise.
We are looking for donations of Laptops, PC’s, tablets and flat-screen monitors.
All hard drives will be wiped in line with the European General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), and the UK Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and a certificate can be provided upon request.
Our team of computer refurbishing experts will strip down computers, monitors, laptops and other IT equipment and carefully re-build them into fully working equipment, which will be sold at an affordable price.
We can collect free of charge within 5 working days of a request being received.
Please contact email@example.com or call 01223 863 657.
All funds raised will help us continue to support the formerly homeless people who live and work with us to rebuild their lives."
Come to our Bake off and Picnic in June - enter a cake or just come for the food.
Hosts and artists needed for 2022 Bird Box Gallery Art Trail in July.
All this and more in our May newsletter. If you receive a paper copy you should have had a one page insert with details of both the above events.
Also, a report of the April Easter Egg hunt is now available.
Can you help us?
Our newsletter for March is available to download as a pdf.
We need new committee members, come and join in, meet people and have some fun while giving something back to the community.

Extending the success of last year’s St Thomas’ Square/street advent calendar, this year they are planning to extend it to the surrounding roads – Birdwood Road, Ward Road, Chalmers Road, Gray Road, Walpole Road, Tiverton Way, Budleigh Close, The Ancaster Estate, St Thomas’s Square/Road. Every day between 1st December and 24th December they are aiming for a different house to show something Christmassy in a window. Design can be big or small!
If you would like to take part, please email firstname.lastname@example.org (or drop a note through 15 St Thomas Square) before 22nd November 2021. You can state a preference for a date. Which window and the design is completely up to you – it doesn’t have to be grand!
How will it work?
1) Email Carrie to tell her you want to participate
2) She'’ll allocate you a date
3) In the run up to your date, display that date in your window so people can see what’s coming
4) On the day, decorate your window
5) Ideally keep it up until Christmas!
6) A list of houses who are participating will be sent round so you can go and spot the windows each day.

Cambridge Online has been revealed last night as a finalist for the first-ever Craig McDonald Memorial Prize, organised as part of the national Digital Leaders 100. Awards. The award is to recognise grassroots organisations working in their local areas to fix the digital divide and a public vote is now open to decide the winner of the £5k prize, who will be announced on 11 November. People can vote for Cambridge Online to win by going to https://digileaders100.com/craig-macdonald. It just takes ticking a box and entering your email, so no time at all to help them in this way.
They were shortlisted for their work over lockdown, which has now supplied about 500 households with devices and/or connectivity (quite a few families with more than one device too) and helped around 700 people more widely with digital inclusion issues.
If you know of someone they can help then contact Cambridge Online.
Note, this event is not organised by the Birdwood Area Residents' Association.
